Theft of Flood Materials

09/26/13 – 6:15 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office has received reports that there have been people taking some of the materials stored in the dirt overflow parking lot next the recreation center. This material belongs to Jefferson County and is being used to repair damages caused by the storms/flooding and is NOT for private use. The parking lot is under camera surveillance and any person caught stealing these materials may be prosecuted for theft.

GILPIN COUNTY RESPONDING TO DAMAGES FROM STORMS

09/26/13 – 09:30 A.M. – In response to damages our citizens and our infrastructure sustained from the recent storms and flooding, Gilpin County is working with the Colorado Office of Emergency Management (COEM) teams to assess these damages. We want to help our residents recover as quickly as possible and so the COEM teams will be in Gilpin County on Thursday, September 26th and one day next week, to determine what type of assistance individual families and the county are eligible for. As soon as these assessments and determinations have been completed, this information will be passed on to our citizens.

Road Closures

All Gilpin County Roads are open. Any information about county roads will be updated here if anything changes.

Updated Gilpin County Conditions

As of 9/17/13 at 0930

Currently the only road closures affecting Gilpin County are as follows:

  • Hwy 72 is closed from Highway 119 in Gilpin County to Highway 93 in Jefferson County.
  • Boulder Canyon Road is closed from Nederland to Boulder.

Highway 46/Golden Gate Canyon Road is open from Highway 119 to Highway 93 in Jefferson County.

Wheeler Pond Dam remains stable. The location of Wheeler Pond dam is S. Beaver Ck. Rd. and Morning Star Cir

Wheeler Dam and Road Conditions Update

At S. Beaver Ck. Rd. and Morning Star Circle, Public Works and Timberline Fire Department have shored up the Wheeler Pond Dam. There are no evacuations required. Timberline Fire is monitoring the dam.

Currently the only road closures affecting Gilpin County are as follows:

  • Hwy 72 is closed from Highway 119 in Gilpin County to Highway 93 in Jefferson County.
  • Highway 46 is open from Highway 119 to Robinson Hill Road only. The Jefferson County side of this road is expected to be closed for a few more days.
  • There is alternating one-way traffic on Highway 46 at mile point 4.2 due to road damage in the eastbound lane. CDOT is working to fix the problem.
  • Boulder Canyon Road is closed from Nederland to Boulder.

09/14/13 ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE FOR GILPIN COUNTY

09:45 a..m. – Currently the only road closures affecting Gilpin County are as follows:

  • Hwy 72 is closed from Highway 119 in Gilpin County to Highway 93 in Jefferson County.
  • Highway 46 is open from Highway 119 to Robinson Hill only. The Jefferson County side of this road is expected to be closed for a few more days.
  • Boulder Canyon Road is closed from Nederland to Boulder

UPDATE ON ROAD CONDITIONS

I-70 now has one lane in each direction open at Floyd Hill.

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATES

09/13/13/  2:00 P.M. – Following is a list of road conditions affecting Gilpin County effective at 2:00 p.m.

  • Highway 6 from Golden to I-70 is open, however, there is no access onto I-70 at the junction of Highway 6 and I-70
  • Highway 119 is completely open
  • Central City Parkway is open to I-70
  • I-70 can be accessed via the Central City Parkway, however, traffic on I-70 eastbound and westbound is reduced to one lane
  • Hwy 72 is closed from Highway 119 in Gilpin County to Highway 93 in Golden
  • Highway 46 (Golden Gate Canyon) is open from Highway 119 to Robinson Hill ONLY
  • Boulder Canyon Road is closed from Nederland to Boulder
  • Highway 119 north of Nederland is closed

 

Flash Flood Warning

09/13/13 07:45 a.m. – All of Gilpin County is under a flash flood warning until 7:30 p.m. tonight. Be prepared to move to higher ground or to an upper level of your home.

GILPIN COUNTY ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION

09/13/13 0645 –  Highway 6 from Gilpin to Golden is open at this time. Highway 72 is closed in both directions for a minimum of 2 days. Highway 46 is closed in both directions. Central City Parkway is open to I-70.   Currently I-70 is closed westbound at Floyd Hill. I-70 is open eastbound and westbound from the Central City Parkway.
